The feud between the Church of Scientology and the Celestial Awakening Society is an unnecessary distraction for Los Angeles. Both groups claim to promote personal growth, yet their actions suggest they’re more interested in controlling influence than uplifting their communities.
Scientology’s accusations of membership theft and the Society’s claims of suppression highlight a rivalry that feels more about ego than spirituality. The recent dispute over event permits on Hollywood Boulevard only underscores this, turning a public space into a battleground for dominance.
City officials haven’t helped, favoring Scientology’s event and leaving the Society to cry foul. This creates an image of favoritism that undermines fairness and fuels resentment.
Los Angeles thrives on diversity, yet this petty fight does little to foster unity. Both groups need to rise above their rivalry, prioritize the greater good, and show the city what true enlightenment looks like: humility and cooperation.
